Water damage can’t be undone, but it can be repaired.
This Norfolk drywall repair originated from a water leak in the bathroom on the 2nd floor. Water leaked through the ceiling and quickly created a noticeable water spot.
Our Work
Once the leak was repaired, we focused on drying out all remaining humidity. A couple of days later, we returned to the location and got rid of the damaged section. Since the area was considerably large, we had to remove entire sections completely, down to the stud. Then, we placed the replacement drywall aligned to the support studs.
Once all drywall screws were in place, we applied joint compound where needed, we primed and painted.
Detecting Water Damage to Drywall
Water damage is very common, and, as in this case, they are usually a byproduct of a different issue elsewhere in the house. However, they may be the result of humidity buildup. These are a few signs to be on the lookout for:
- Water seeping through the drywall should be a simple indicator. It helps to use a light—flashlight or phone light—to better spot any droplets.
- Drywall sagging after it has been pressed is also an indicator of damage. Light sagging may go right over the layperson’s head. A professional can help you determine whether your wall sags and what steps to take. Cracks in the drywall or peeling paint may also indicate trouble.
- Mold and mildew indicate condensation and create a great space for bacteria to live in. If you notice any form of mold on your wall, it’s time to give us a call, as it can cause more significant damage than it appears to.
- Water spots, similar to droplets seeping from the wall, indicate a buildup of moisture. These are easier to identify but speak to a more complicated issue and can result in a warped drywall sheet.
